VOLUNTEERS – WOMEN WITH CANCER NEEDED

Women with Breast and Gynecologic Cancer are need for a study that will allow us to provide information to help women recover their intimacy to desired levels during the critical phase after breast or gynecologic cancer treatment.

INTIMACY FOR WOMEN WITH CANCER
Health care professionals and women who have heard our talks or read our books on handling impotence in relationships have often asked why is a similar book not available for women with breast cancer. A study is being performed to prepare a guide to revive intimacy for women who have had breast cancer. Women have a far more complex set of problems than men with impotence. And men have more treatment options.

Women have significant problems with intimacy ensuing from their treatment for breast or gynecologic cancer. They may have physical changes in their body because of surgery or physiological effects from chemo- or radiation therapy. Women often experience psychological issues after diagnosis and treatment for cancer. All of these problems affect women’s relationships, especially intimacy. More than half of the 2.5 million breast cancer survivors have long-term problems with intimacy

Ralph and Barbara Alterowitz have done extensive work in helping men and their partners work through intimacy problems following prostate cancer treatment. Background information on them and their work can be found in other pages on this site: www.renewintimacy.org.
